PKR Tournaments Review

Monday, March 9th, 2009

PKR has a great scheduled tournament schedule with a lot of low buy-in events and unique tournaments to keep things interesting.  PKR holds many big guarantee tournaments every month, including the $100K Masters and the $50K Sunday Classic.  There are many other tournament varieties and types including bounty tournaments (terminator tournaments unique to PKR), satellite tournaments, second and third chance tournaments, freerolls and more.

Guaranteed Tournaments

Every week PKR holds their $50K guaranteed Sunday Classic tournament with a buy-in of $65 + $6.50 at 2pm EST.  The PKR Masters event is held the last Saturday of every month at 3pm EST.  Even during the week you can find some big prize pools including the “The Open” $12.5K guaranteed with a buy-in of only $24 every day of the week at 2:30pm EST.  The Open is replaced on Wednesdays by the Bounty tournament, which is a $15K guaranteed tournament where you can earn an extra $100 for every PKR sponsored bounty player you knock out.

Terminator Tournaments

Terminator tournaments are PKR’s take on bounty tournaments and they have become very popular amongst PKR players.  In terminator tournaments a certain proportion of each players buy-in becomes a bounty on their head.  The percentage is usually 50%, but this can change depending on the tournament.  The twist with PKR’s terminator tournaments is that when you knock a player out, you earn only a portion of their bounty and a portion adds to your bounty.  This means that the bounties become larger and larger as the tournament progresses.

PKR also has some special terminator tournaments, such as the terminator two, which is a heads up multi-table tournament where your entire buy-in is on your head, and when you defeat your opponent you win a portion of his bounty and a portion adds to your bounty for the next match.

Satellites

PKR holds a ton of satellite tournaments into their big guaranteed events and many super satellites to their live tournament satellites.  You will be able to find a satellite tournament that is well within your budget because PKR has satellites of all buy-in levels.  For example you can satellite into the PKR $100K Masters event for under $1.

Rebuy Tournaments

PKR runs a lot of rebuy tournaments, which give you a chance to still compete for a prize even if you bust early on.  PKR also has some unique rebuy tournaments called second and third chance tournaments.  In these tournaments you can choose to divide your stack into 2 or 3 stacks to use in case you bust in the tournament.  Of course the smartest way to play these tournaments is to use your entire stack right from the start, but if you are a good short stack player, maybe having a short stack all the time is what you need to succeed.

PKR has a very strong and fun tournament schedule with a lot of unique features which help to keep PKR’s tournaments, newer and fresher than the tournaments of a lot of other poker rooms.  You should make sure you use a PKR bonus code when signing up at PKR in order to receive the PKR bonus that is right for you.

PKR Double and Triple Chance Tournaments

Tuesday, December 23rd, 2008

PKR has just announced a new style of tournament, exclusive to PKR, called the double and triple chance tournaments.  In these tournaments players get the option to split their starting stack into 2 or 3 piles, hence the name double and triple chance.  This means that if you have split your stack into 2 starting piles, and lose, you still have a second pile that can be used.

Splitting your stack into smaller piles would be good if you are a strong short stack player.  However, the majority of players should still keep their stack intact as one, as this will be the easiest way to win tournaments because the bigger your stack the stronger you are and the more chips you can win.  By splitting your stack you are likely putting yourself at a disadvantage.

Double and triple chance tournaments are not available at any other poker room, so if you want to try them out, sign up at PKR using our PKR bonus code and get the best bonus to use towards these new tournaments.

PKR Adds Rebuy's to Tournaments

Tuesday, December 23rd, 2008

PKR has just announced that they have added rebuys to many guaranteed tournaments at PKR.  This means that players can get a second chance in many tournaments if they happen to be the victim of a bad beat, a cold deck, or simply a bad play.  The rebuys will increase the prize pools of many PKR tournaments.

Some of the tournaments at PKR will have a set number of rebuys allowed, while others will allow unlimited rebuys in a set amount of time.

Rebuy tournaments are a great way to make some good money at poker if you are a good player.   Rebuy tournaments give the fish a chance to put more of their money into the prize pool, which just means more money for the top players :) .

So check out our PKR bonus code to make sure you get the best initial deposit bonus before you try these rebuy tourneys!

PKR's Deal or No Deal

Saturday, December 6th, 2008

PKR has recently introduced the popular tv game show “Deal or No Deal” to it’s software.  The game can be played for play or real money and is hosted by an animated version of Noel Edmonds.

To start a game of Deal or No Deal, just click on the red “Deal or No Deal” tab in the top left corner of the PKR lobby.  You can play for anywhere from $0.50 to $100.

How to Play
First of all you will have to pick one of the 26 boxes to be your own box.  The hope is that your box will contain the highest value of all 26 boxes.
Next you must reveal the remaining boxes in chunks of a set number of boxes.  For example at first you will have to reveal 6 boxes, and this number will decrease each time you do not take the Bankers deal.
After you have revealed all the necessary boxes in one turn, the banker will give you an offer to sell your box that you chose at the beginning of the game to him.  If you choose not to sell the banker your box, you must choose more boxes.  This continues until either you take the bankers offer, or you are down to your box and one remaining box.
If you get down to one remaining box you will be given the option to keep your box or switch boxes.  Then whatever you have is what you get.

The bankers offers are based on an average of what values have not been revealed.  This is  game of complete luck and you can even choose to autoplay.  PKR has done a good job with there Deal or No Deal game at it’s a fun novelty to have if you want to take a break from the tables.

If you want to play Deal or No Deal, remember that our PKR Bonus Codes still apply.

PKR Points

Monday, November 24th, 2008

PKR points are a form of currency at PKR.  You can use the PKR points that you have earned in many ways, including:

  1. Purchase character accessories, such as chip tricks and new clothes to make your character exactly the player you want at the table.
  2. Buy-in to some exclusive PKR freeroll events, including the big $10K premium freeroll at the end of every month.  PKR point satellites to all the land based events have also recently been added.
  3. Purchase cool “real life” merchandise such as hoodies or tournament tickets from the PKR store.  Some examples of merchandise include a PKR hoodie for 100,000 points or a ticket to the $7.5K Guaranteed tournament with a buy-in of $109 for 150,000 points.

For every $1 you spend in tournament fees, you earn 100 PKR points.

In ring games, PKR points are awarded based on how much money you contributed to the pot.  For example if you contribute $9 to a $50 pot with a $2.50 rake, you would earn 45 PKR points because that is 18% of the total amount of PKR points given out for a $2.50 rake hand.  The maximum amount of PKR points you can earn in one hand is capped at 150.
